ENTSO-E — the European network of transmission system operators

Quick answer: ENTSO-E is the association of 39 European Transmission System Operators (TSOs) covering 35 countries. It coordinates cross-border electricity flows, sets pan-European grid codes, and runs the Transparency Platform that publishes day-ahead prices, generation, and load data — the source euenergy uses.

In depth

Founded in 2009, ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity) is a legally-mandated body under EU Regulation 714/2009. Member TSOs include Statnett (Norway), TenneT (Germany/Netherlands), RTE (France), Terna (Italy), and 35 others.

Its Transparency Platform is the single source of truth for all 41 European bidding zones — day-ahead and intraday prices, generation by fuel type, cross-border flows, and physical load every 15 minutes (or hourly for older data). euenergy ingests this feed every weekday at midday CEST and publishes it for free.

ENTSO-E also coordinates the synchronous areas, runs the Continental Europe Synchronous Area frequency control, and signs off on new interconnector projects.
